"A Loyal Companion": Prof. Dr. Ali Yücel UYAREL
When we lost the late Prof. Dr. Mahmud Es'ad Coşan (Rh.a) in a tragic traffic accident in Australia on 4 February 2001, there was one other person with him: Prof. Dr. Ali Yücel UYAREL. Ali Yücel UYAREL, the son-in-law of the late Es'ad Coşan, accompanied his mentor on his journey to the afterlife, just as he had served him throughout his life.
Uyarel, during his successful academic career, educated numerous students, guided and supported many social and cultural organisations, and served the community he lived in throughout his life by participating in charitable institutions. Despite this, he never altered his modest demeanour or his direction. He was like the ‘foot in the stirrup,’ both running and standing still. Even after his death, he left behind a trace like the scent of rose water. Now, he is like the words in a book, neither silent nor speaking. Preparing a work about his life is not only a matter of loyalty but also a necessity to aspire to be like him.
With this aim in mind, his students, relatives, friends, and acquaintances gathered to share their memories in a panel discussion. Prof. Dr. Hür Mahmut YÜCER compiled these memories and recollections for our valued readers.
