‘If you want to get a little bit of these great blessings, you should get your head together and try to fight your ego. The world is temporary, and everything in it is temporary! If this knowledge of God is in your heart, neither death nor anything else can touch you. Death is nothing more than a transition from this world to another.’ M. Zahid Kotku
This is a work written by the late Mehmed Zahid Kotku, one of the great spiritual figures and iconic personalities of our recent history, may Allah have mercy on him, to introduce the attributes and characteristics of the self and to show the ways to free oneself from its negative influences.
According to him, the first condition for training the self and making it obedient to the soul is to recognise sins and avoid them. For this reason, major and minor sins have been listed in the book based on various sources and presented in a unique format.
Part of the work was written in his own handwriting and part was written by his visitors. Previously published in various editions, Nefsin Terbiyesi has been thoroughly revised in this edition; sections requiring correction have been amended; and the sources of verses, hadiths, sayings of the wise, and poems have been indicated where possible.
To facilitate the reader's understanding, some difficult words and concepts that have been removed from the page have been explained in a small dictionary at the side of the page where they appear. The sources used in the compilation of the work have been identified and brief information about them has been provided.
