"Etiquette of social interaction" (Âdâb-ı muâşeret) is an important discipline that teaches the rules of courtesy necessary for a person to live as a respectable member of society, establishes the form of moderate and courteous behaviour to be followed in human relations, and encompasses the words, deeds, and behaviours that make a person virtuous and worthy of respect within society. Just as laws are insufficient for governing people without morality, so too is morality nothing more than an opinion without Âdâb-ı muâşeret, which is a form of applying good morals to life. This means that it is not possible to say that morality can ensure worldly and eternal happiness for individuals without Âdâb-ı muâşeret in individual and social life, nor can laws do so without morality.
